I’m a Canadian animator currently living and working in San Francisco. My history has been as an animation for TV shows and right now I animate at Kabam; a web and mobile games company. In my spare time I work on Pickled; a hand animated short film. I’ve been learning to animate in 3D since fall of 2013. I like ukelele music, burlesque shows, drawing and of course listening to podcasts!

TAW cast 006 – Return to Animationland

I recorded a quick n’ dirty bit of audio while walking to the train from work. I’ve been back at work since mid May 2016. I’m living in Vancouver, BC right now and working at Atomic Cartoons. We’re using Toon Boom Harmony. The show I’m working on is yet to be announced but it features very “classic characters”. I have very little spare time now for recording, so maybe mini casts while walking to the train or to work will be an interesting way to squeeze it in. Prior to starting work here I took a year off to care for my new baby. Prior to that I took mat leave right after he was born and then returned to my job in San Francisco for only 5 weeks. It is a lot of madness to juggle family life with work. I hope to discuss it a bit further as well as my current job, plans for the future and one day get back to interviewing bad ass artists.

TAW Episode 5: Joanna Davidovich interview! Part 2

Here it is, part two! Joanna and I talk about her short film Monkey Rag, Kickstarter plans of action, cartoons and the difference between working on paper and digitally. It gets pretty informal at the end and we just chat about life stuff and whatever. And some good news; The Animation Workout is now on iTunes!!

So this will be my last podcast of 2014. I’m not sure when I’ll pick it up again as my life is about to be flip turned upside down in a matter of days when I give birth. Apologies for it getting this episode posted late, seems like the auto publish feature didn’t work.

Happy end of 2014 and start of 2015!

TAW Episode 4: Joanna Davidovich interview! Part 1

I was meant to upload this podcast last week on Wednesday November 5 but due to some very sad technical difficulties my first attempt at recording an interview with Joanna didn’t work out. Joanna was very gracious and we did a second recording! We ended up talking about some of the same stuff, a lot of different stuff and for about an hour and a half! Since the interview went on so long I’m going to break it up into 2 parts. So come back in a couple of weeks to the rest of my informal chat with Joanna on November 26!

The Animation Workout – Episode 3: Chatting about design with Deanna Marsligliese!

Here it is! My interview with Deanna Marsigliese! I start the podcast with a little mini review of The Animation Show of Shows. Deanna currently works at Pixar as a character designer. We both attended Sheridan College and Deanna was a year ahead of me. I always admired her work but was too shy back then to introduce myself. A few years after graduating I asked Deanna to do some character designs for my short film and after that we became friends. When we started hanging out we both lived in Toronto and it was by coincidence that we would both end up living in San Francisco at the same time!

My husband Stephen Tucker (visual effects artist extraordinaire and photographer) did the recording for us (since I didn’t know how to when I did this interview )and he chimes in on the conversation. This interview was conducted in February 2014 so it was technically the first interview I ever recorded.

We talk a bit about Deanna’s history and then about character design. Deanna is currently off seeing the world and taking photos and doing drawings and paintings as she goes. She told me that she plans to release her new drawings in book form! I love her first book and I’m sure many people will be excited to know that she has plans for another.

Check it out!

Here are some of the rough character designs Deanna did for Pickled:

Coming this Wednesday…. podcast with Pixar’s Deanna Marsigliese!

I recorded the portion of this week’s podcast with Deanna in February 2014 about a week or so before she took off to see the world for a year. Finally I share it online! I didn’t have big plans for the podcast while I was making it but I wanted to grab Deanna for an interview before I wasn’t going to see her for a full year at least. I can’t wait to see all the amazing artwork she’s making on her trip and the photos she’s taking!!! So come back on Wednesday Oct 15 to hear my interview with her!

The Animation Workout Podcast – Episode 2: Show Early, Show Often… When You’re Ready!

This one is about sharing work in progress! A handy thing to do. For some people verbalising a goal or sharing a project when it’s still new leads to feeling the accomplishment of having already “finished” said project. For me, verbalising a goal makes it real for me and makes me feel committed. It’s a good idea for you to figure out when verbalising and sharing your goal is going to really help you to commit to it.

I’m going to post a podcast every three weeks on Wednesdays until November 26 (or until my maternity leave starts, whatever comes first.) So the remaining 2014 podcast dates are: October 15, November 5 and 26.

The Animation Workout – Episode 1: Hello World

It’s my first solo podcast ever! I popped into a conference room at the office I work at early this morning to record it. I chat briefly about what inspired me to start podcasting and where I’d like to go with it. Give it a listen!

Links I mention in the podcast:

Welcome to The Animation Workout!

Woo, it’s my first post here ever!

I really love listening to podcasts, often while I’m animating away. Talking to people and building websites are not strong points of mine so getting my own podcast going has been but a fantasy for some time. Recently I got really inspired by a few events and decided I’d give it a shot! I’d love to discuss animation as well as any form of art as well as juggling life with being a full time artist. Every artist has a different path and I’ve love to hear and share experiences. Who doesn’t love a big dose of inspiration? Podcasts, coming soon!
